About Edinburgh Art Festival Founded in 2004, Edinburgh Art Festival brings together the capital’s leading galleries, museums, production facilities and artist-run spaces in a city-wide celebration of the very best in visual art. The UK’s largest annual festival of visual art, it is a leading international platform for supporting the development, production and presentation of ambitious new work by artists working in Scotland, the UK and internationally. Each year the Festival features leading international and UK artists alongside the best emerging talent with a special programme of newly commissioned artworks that responds to public and historic sites in the city. The vast majority of Edinburgh Art Festival is free with a packed programme featuring exhibitions, performances, screenings, artist talks and guided tours. Learning and engagement Alongside the main festival programme, they also run a yearly series of learning and engagement activities which aim to inspire people to get creative, remove barriers and broaden access to visual art and the festival programme. Tailored tours, workshops and projects with community organisations and local schools explore fundamental local issues from an artistic point of view.
